This is Kenshin; after participating in the Bakumatsu war as the assassin “Hitokiri Battōsai”, Himura Kenshin wanders the countryside of Japan offering protection and aid to those in need as atonement for the murders he once committed. Doesn’t he look fantastic on the toes of these flats?!

Some of the cast:
Kamiya Kaoru (top left) is the instructor of a kendo school called Kamiya Kasshin-ryū. She developes romantic feelings for Kenshin.

Sagara Sanosuke (top middle) is a fighter-for-hire who calms his anger by fighting. During his intro in the series, he encounters the wanderer Kenshin, who easily defeats him and is able to convince him to stop his mercenary work and instead start protecting people. After that encounter, Sanosuke becomes Kenshin’s best friend as well as his partner in most of their fights.

Makimachi Misao (top right) is a fairly skilled, 16 year old ninja. She becomes close friends with Kenshin, Kaoru, and Yahiko; helping them fight.

Myojin Yahiko (bottom right) is an orphan from a samurai family forced to work as a thief to repay the debt he had allegedly owes. When he is rescued by Kenshin, he decides that he will grow up to be just like him.

The bottom middle and left are antagonists Shinormori Aoshi, and Uonuma Usui. Now this is going to sound entirely shallow, and I’m okay with that; but I just love Usui’s uniform! Villains are always the best dressed!

Rurouni’s main villain is a guy named Shishio Makoto. He took Kenshin’s place as the assassin… Go check it out to find out more!

Thank you to the various Wiki’s out there that helped fill me in on what appears to be a great story!
